Adding an Organisation

Why add an organisation?

  • The RFLC is aiming to help people working in the field of rural finance to find information which can help them understand and learn about the key issues in this topic. The Centre also wishes to facilitate the dissemination of best practices, innovations and experience from one organisation to another.
  • The contacts gateway is designed to promote that sharing and networking by providing a facility for individuals and organisations to provide information about themselves, what their connection is to rural finance and how people can contact them.
  • The training materials and publications of an organisation may be included in the resources database of the RFLC but in the contacts section, the organisation can provide more comprehensive information about themselves and their work in rural finance and provide a link to their website or give their address details.
  • To protect RFLC members and featured organisations from falling victim to further onslaughts from spammers, the email addresses provided will not be active links. People wishing to make contact with someone will need to note and type the email address into the address line of their email program.

Adding an organisation

To submit an organisation to the RFLC you must be a registered member of the Rural Finance Learning Centre.

  • The details of an organisation form a Knowledge Object (KO) within the RFLC and the process of adding one is therefore the same as Adding knowledge. The data held about the organisation you submit will be referred to as a knowledge object from time to time.
  • First login and then go to the organisations topic in the contacts gateway.
  • In the bottom section of the topic screen you will see the +suggest link next to a box with a drop down list of add forms. Select the word organisation and it will appear in the box, then click on the +suggest link and the appropriate form will appear.
  • Following the on-screen examples, enter the information (metadata) requested in the fields provided.
Abstracts are particularly important and should be written carefully and in a manner which makes it clear to the potential reader what the relevance of this particular organisation may be to him or her. You should emphasise the rationale of the organisation, provide details of work being undertaken in the field of rural finance and indicate in which country or countries the organisation is working. Draw particular attention to innovations and experience that may be interesting to other practitioners or, in the case of networks or international organisations, what particular role or expertise is being offered to enhance rural finance practice.
  • Enter keywords relevant to the activities of your organisation. If you wish you may refer to the keyword list provided.
  • Click on Submit. You will be notified within a few days, via your Inbox, whether your suggested organisation has been accepted by the Chief Editor. You can also check your Recent Activity screen to see if the details have been added.

Editing the details

  • Once your organisation has been accepted you can then go back in at any time and edit the reference information (metadata) as necessary.
  • To access your organisation details, after login, go to the My Knowledge tab in the my info section, click on the Edit button next to the knowledge object which refers to your organisation details and an Edit screen will be opened so you can make the necessary changes.
  • Then click on 'submit' to complete the edit process.
  • Your edited knowledge object will go to the Inbox of the Chief Editor. You will be notified within a few days whether the edited details have been accepted.
  • Please note that your knowledge object metadata may also be edited by the Chief Editor, e.g., to correct any spelling mistakes or add additional standard keywords.

Deleting an Organisation

  • Knowledge can only be completely deleted from the system by the owner of a knowledge object or by the Chief Editor.
  • To delete your organisation details, go into the Edit screen for that KO and click on the Delete button at the bottom of the screen.
