my info (members)

my info

  • My info is an "explorer" system in which members can manage their passwords, personal preferences, knowledge objects and any topics he or she may edit.
  • Once you have registered as a member of the RFLC, you can login by entering your username and password in the login box on the side navigation bar.
  • When you have logged in, a my info link will appear in the member login section of the left hand side navigation bar.
  • Clicking the my info link will take you into the explorer system and you will be presented with the following choices: Recent Activity, Inbox, My Knowledge, My Topics, My Settings and Subscribed Topics.
  • Normally my info will open into My Settings. Click the relevant tab to switch to other screens.

My settings

This should be the first screen displayed when you arrive at my info. Via this screen you can change your password; review information about your group membership; and control your default login screen. You are able to choose a Favourite Location, which can then be set as a default login screen. Choices might include: Advanced Search, one of the my info screens or a specified topic screen which is identified by its url location. The url location can be found in the Overview section in the side navigation bar of the selected topic. It is a four digit number preceded by ID#. To enter it in the specified url address field, you should type /id/ followed by the four digit number.

Subscribed Topics

Members can subscribe to topics that are of particular interest to them and they will then receive a weekly update by email if there are any changes to those topics such as the addition of new Knowledge Objects. Click the Subscribed Topics tab in my info to go to a screen with a 'Subscribe to topic' field in which you can enter a topic id number selected from the Sitemap. Then click the Subscribe button. You can also subscribe by clicking on the 'subscribe' button next to the topic title in any topic screen.

If you no longer wish to receive information about a topic then, after login, you must go to that topic and click on the 'unsubscribe' button next to the topic title. Alternatively, to unsubscribe from multiple topics, go to my info and click on the Subscribed Topics tab. Here you can see a list of topics to which you have subscribed and you can check the box beside the ones you no longer wish to subscribe to and then click the unsubscribe button below.

Recent Activity

Clicking on the Recent Activity tab takes you to a screen which lists details of recent activity in topics to which you are subscribed (e.g., new knowledge added, new subtopics added, new links implemented.) Once you have been alerted by email that there are changes in your subscribed topics, go to the Recent Activity screen to see the details. Here is an example of what you may see when a KO or topic you have suggested has been accepted:

  • 26/04/2004 rflc editor added Call for Papers suggested by john cordone ( News )

Inbox

If you have suggested a knowledge object or topic, you will receive notification of whether or not it has been accepted in your Inbox. This message may come from a Topic Editor or Chief Editor. If you do not receive any notification messages in your Inbox, please check your Recent Activity screen where you may be able to see if your suggestion has been implemented. Example message:

  • 26/04/2004 Editor, RFLC Approved Topic "Agriculture extension" Remove this message

My Knowledge

When you suggest an item of knowledge to the RFLC and it is accepted into the system, you remain the owner of that knowledge object and can at anytime edit it, delete it or suggest linking it to other topics. Click the My Knowledge tab to go to a screen which lists all of the RFLC knowledge objects you own.

Clicking the edit button beside a KO title takes you directly to a form in which you can amend the abstract and other details relating to this KO, link it to other topics or delete the object. If you have amended the details, click submit to resend the form to the Topic Editor for approval.

My Topics

If you have been made an Editor of one or more topics, the My Topics screen lists all topics you edit. From here you can click the topic path to go directly to the topic or click the edit button to go directly to a form to edit the topic details. Please go to the Editor's version of the my info help file for further information.
