Founded in 1999, the Micro Banking Competence Center (MBCC), which is part of Bankakademie International, is the know-how partner for different types of microfinance institutions, their networks and training institutions whose mission is to serve the economically disadvantaged with viable financial services in compliance with standards of professional excellence. Being an integral part of a bank training institute, MBCC has a strong track record in capacity building programmes. They have developed a broad range of innovative technical tools and training products for capacity building in microfinance institutions that can be adapted to and employed in various institutional and regional contexts. In close co-operation with partners and clients, MBCC develops customised training programmes to strengthen MFI management and support institutional growth processes.

Annually, MBCC offers a Summer Academy in Micro Banking for mid-level and senior managers of microfinance institutions that combines both technical and soft skill training. Leading Change in Microfinance Markets is taught around a comprehensive case study of a transforming NGO that provides the background for the individual technical modules and the broad change management lessons.
