DescripciónBASIX is a new generation livelihood promotion institution established in 1996, working with over 150,000 poor households in 25 districts and six states of India. Its mission is to promote a large number of sustainable livelihoods, including for the rural poor and women, through the provision of financial services and technical assistance in an integrated manner. BASIX is made up of a group of financial services and technical assistance companies. It has adopted a successful approach to micro finance that serves the needs of different segments of customers through different channels of provision. It lends money primarily to the rural poor, particularly the landless and women to promote self-employment, but also to rural commercial farmers and non-farm enterprises, to maintain that there is also wage employment for the rural poor. A flexible system of microcredit is offered through direct and indirect loans, ensure that credit can be attained by the poor at reasonably low interest rates. On top of just micro-credit, BASIX has extended to offer technical assistance and support services for livelihood promotion in rural areas. This support to sustainable livelihoods is an integral part of their business and is achieved by collaborating with other key rural economic actors, for instance, to increase market knowledge and access for rural producers.
