| Description | The Inter-American Development Bank was established in 1959 as a multilateral finance institution for the development of the region. Its loans and grants help finance sustainable economic and social development projects and support strategies to reduce poverty, expand growth, increase trade, investment and regional integration, and promote private sector development and modernization of the State.
Primary objective of the Bank is adjusting the focus of its activities and operations to meet the shifting development needs of its member countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region.The IDB is owned by its 47 member countries. The IDB Group is composed of the IDB, the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) and the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF). The IIC focuses on support for small and medium-sized businesses, while the MIF promotes private sector growth through grants and investments.
The Bank has been a pioneer in supporting social programs, developing economic, social, education and health institutions, promoting regional integration, and providing direct support to the private sector, including microenterprises. |
